University Graduate College: Enhancing the experience of Postgraduate Researchers
PhD Connective Tissue Biology2009-2012School of BiosciencesInternational Student from Argentina
Whilst doing a BSc at Cardiff University, I fell in love with research in the field of genetics. I knew the high standard of research and facilities, and this influenced my decision as to why I decided to continue my Higher Education at Cardiff University.
I chose to do a PhD as this was the best choice for my future career, giving me the opportunity to carry out my own experiments in a field that interests me and helping me develop new skills that one day will allow me to have my own laboratory. I wanted to work with other PhD students who share my interest in this field, and deliver lectures to undergraduates that will fuel their excitement in science.
All of the people and academics I work with are very friendly and approachable. My PhD supervisors are very supportive, making sure that my research progresses without any major problems or concerns. The opportunity to demonstrate and run seminars for the undergraduates also gives you great experience in teaching at university level; especially for those like me who one day would like to be a Professor!
Cardiff University has given me the chance to develop my laboratory skills as far as possible and has allowed me to become familiar with a teaching environment that may help me to go down the academic route.
